Bratislava and the Danube banks
The capital Bratislava can be explored on foot in a day: a pedestrian old town, St Martin's Cathedral where the kings of Hungary were crowned, a white castle overlooking the river and the viewing deck of the SNP Bridge. Devín Castle, about ten kilometres away, guards the confluence of the Morava and the Danube. With Vienna only about 60 kilometres away, one hour by train or bus, many travellers combine both capitals, and the airport of neighbouring Austria is often the gateway. Allow two nights for the city and its surroundings.
