When to go to Marrakech: the best time of year by climate

The best time to visit the city is from March to May, with a second good window from September to November. During these months, the climate is considered ideal, with moderate crowds and light that's particularly flattering for photography. The sun is ever-present and it's a little less hot, with average temperatures between 20 and 30 degrees. In spring, from April to June, it can average between 25 and 30 degrees, with pleasant coolness in the morning and evening, especially in April.

Summer, from June to August, marks a real turning point: in July, temperatures range from 21 degrees in the morning to 37 degrees in the afternoon, a dry but very intense heat that strongly limits daytime activities. Crowds nonetheless remain significant during this period, driven in particular by visitors who combine Marrakech with a cooler coastal stay.

Autumn, from September to November, is often described as a second spring in Morocco: temperatures drop back down to noticeably more pleasant levels, between 18 and 25 degrees, in a calmer atmosphere than in summer.

Winter, from December to February, stays cool but very sunny. Travelling outside high season, particularly in January and November, has real advantages: generous winter sunshine, greater accommodation availability and far fewer crowds at the city's main attractions.

Ramadan changes the rhythm of the city: shop and restaurant hours shift, some places close during the day and the atmosphere becomes livelier after the fast is broken. It is not a period to avoid, but it calls for flexibility and respect for local customs.

Its dates change every year, as they follow the lunar calendar. Check them before booking, along with religious holidays and public holidays, which can also affect prices and availability.

The city is an excellent base for exploring the surroundings. The Atlas valleys, such as the Ourika or Imlil, are pleasant in spring and autumn, and offer some coolness in summer. In winter the peaks can be snowy, which calls for suitable equipment.

Essaouira, on the Atlantic coast, is a popular escape when Marrakech swelters in summer, with fresher air. Excursions to the Agafay desert can be done all year round, but temperatures at sunset are cooler in the cold season.
